They’ve helped orchestrate the perfect day for countless couples. Now twelve new couples will find themselves in the wedding spotlight in the second Year of Weddings novella collection.
MacKenzie thought writing wedding stories was beneath her journalistic abilities. Until one love story rekindled an old flame and opened her heart to love once more.
MacKenzie “Mac” Davis left her hometown of Red Leaf, Wisconsin, ten years ago, and she never looked back. But when her father, beloved Coach Davis, suffers a mild heart attack, she returns home for an extended visit. It means taking a job at the local newspaper, where the biggest news story is the return of Hollis Channing to marry her celebrity fiancé, but Mac would do anything to make sure her dad takes care of himself. She just didn’t know that would include spending extended time with her high school crush, Ethan Channing, brother of the bride and the boy who broke her heart.
When Ethan Channing offered to help his sister plan her fast wedding, he had no idea what a big production it would be. Nor what a dilapidated state their old family home would be in. But when he catches Mac trying to take pictures of the house for an article she’s writing, he ropes her in to helping him. It’s hard to believe the tomboy coach’s daughter he remembers from high school has turned into this beautiful fire ball of a woman. And he has to admit he doesn’t mind needing her help in planning the wedding of a lifetime.
It’s been ten years since they’ve seen each other. And ten years is a long time. But is it long enough to repair broken hearts and turn old high school crushes into love?

What a delightfully romantic story, and though I usually wish the story had been longer after coming to the end of a novella, even the length of Love on a Deadline was perfect. I had to smile in recognition at Mac's amusement when she received God's immediate response to her request for His direction for her life . . . and God got the credit for her happily-ever-after. A perfect story.Product details

Love on a Deadline An August Wedding Story A Year of Weddings Novella Book 9 edition by Kathryn Springer Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Thanks to Zondervan Fiction & Netgalley for the ARC. This short Novella from Kathryn Springer, is a quick easy read, that takes you to the small town of Red Leaf, min the shore of Lake Michigan. For 'Mac' Mackenzie Davis who grew up here as the High School football coaches daughter, it is the place she didn't want to return to, but she has come home to take care of her Father. She sees it as a stop over on her way to bigger and better things as a reporter for a larger newspaper in the city. She sees her current job writing small stories about things around town as insignificant and uninteresting, and doesn't enjoy the way she feels she is treated by those around her, as if they all see a kid, and not the woman she wants to prove she is. We meet pretty quickly her former next door neighbor Ethan Channing, the guy she had a pretty big crush on through her childhood, who has finally come home to the town, which he loves. Despite having different outlooks for the future, this sweet little story brings them together, to a place they both want to be. I enjoyed the outlook of her friend, and the perspective she shares. I think this story would have made a great basis for a longer book, especially once the twist about half way through, turns this story into something a lot deeper tha a simple wedding in a small town. Good read, recommend. I was unaware that this made up a collection of twelve different similar themed novellas, an interesting take on the usual wedding novels, looking beyond the couple getting married to those that help make the day what it is.
When I tried, and disliked, a few books in this second series of wedding novellas, I decided to stick with authors I already knew and loved. Kathryn Spring has placed herself firmly in this category with her full length novel The Dandelion Field and her novella The September Bride in the first Year of Weddings Series. Now Love On A Deadline confirms her ability to write loveable characters in charming settings, all tied up with a writing style that flows beautifully and makes for an enjoyable read.
After reading some pretty heavy books recently this was the perfect reprieve, light and fun and sweetly romantic. Mac has returned to Red Leaf to care for her ailing father. Working as a journalist for the local newspaper, she is frustrated to be handed social events to cover instead of the serious stories she longs to investigate. Her latest task is to report on the upcoming wedding of returning local Hollis Channing who is marrying her celebrity fiancé. The only problem is that Mac has plenty of history with Hollis and her brother, Ethan Channing, and not much of it is anything Mac wants to relive any time soon.
By the first chapter I was intrigued by the history between Ethan and Mac, and before too long the flame Mac held for Ethan all those years ago is determined to splutter back to life. The difference, this time around, is that Ethan might actually notice her. The only problem I had with this book was the ending seemed a little rushed, but this is a novella, so one can only expect that. I would have loved more of this story, and Hollis and her fiancé have their own intriguing love story that I would have loved to read more about. Nevertheless, there was a nice balance between details and a simple plot line that suited the length of the book. The standout was the great characters and sweet romance that rekindles between Mac and Ethan. This was a fun and quick read. I can't wait to read whatever Kathryn Springer writes next.
The publishers provided a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Journalist Mackenzie Davis is working for the Red Leaf Register, the paper in her home town, while she waits for her big break in a major publication. Meanwhile she’s left covering insignificant local interest stories. And now her high school nemesis is marrying a rising movie star, and she’s been asked to cover the wedding preparations … which are being undertaken by her high school crush, the boy next door, the brother of said high school nemesis.
“This was Hollis Channing they were talking about. The girl who’s been taking selfies a decade before there’d been a name for it.”
The characters were well-developed, with a convincing and believable rationale for the big misunderstanding she and Ethan had in high school. I was especially impressed by the way she was able to show change in the various characters—not just Mac and Ethan—and the way she brought all the threads of the plot together. The plot was another strength, as it had more complexity than I usually see in a novella.
I think this is the first book I’ve read by Kathryn Springer, but I’ll certainly be keen to read more, as Love on a Deadline was a thoroughly enjoyable short romance
Thanks to Zondervan and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review.
Very predictable. I was disappointed in this book.
I just discovered this author recently. I love her writing and I love this book. I wish it had been a little longer but I know it's only a novella. It had a nice backstory and it was great to see that people can change after high school. I highly recommend purchasing this story.
A perfect story.
